Merryvale we love Merlot from the southern part of Napa Valley, especially the Carneros AVA. The region's cool climate and marine-based soils bring out the best in this Bordeaux variety. Our Carneros Merlot is surprisingly dark with bright cherry, blueberry and currant aromatics on top of coffee/mocha, toast and cranberry. The palate is lush and velvety with good weight and soft tannins. The wine displays great richness, without being heavy or excessive. In short, it is quintessential Carneros Merlot.

Traditional red wine vinification at controlled temperatures of around 25'C; briefly refined in wood, ruby red in color, intense bouquet, complex with vanilla notes characteristic of the refinement in wood, dry flavor, lightly tannic, full-body.

Luscious fruit flavors of black cherry and blackberry. These primary flavors are augmented with secondary flavors of vanilla, toasty oak and spices including clove and nutmeg. The addition of complementary varietals contributes to a velvety mouth feel and lingering, smooth finish. This wine is at its best if enjoyed within a year of release, but should be able to age in the bottle for up to three years.

ONEHOPE California Merlot is a unique drinkable wine created in partnership with Rob Mondavi Jr. from select vineyards throughout Napa, Sonoma and California's Central Coast. Its bright cherry color and subtle notes of toasty spice are a result of aging in a combination of American and French oak barrels. Rich tannins make ONEHOPE Merlot a perfect match with a range of main courses including meats, pastas and vegetarian dishes. ONEHOPE donates 50% of profits generated from the sale of every bottle of its Merlot to AIDS/Lifecycle in the effort to increase knowledge and awareness about HIV/AIDS. The 7-day, 545 mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles raises money to help communities fund services and programs for those fighting AIDS and provides education and support to their friends and families.

You can think of Merlot as a softer, even friendlier, version of a Cabernet Sauvignon. Peter Vella Merlot, in particular, has a lighter mouth feel and a fresher taste that people really seem to appreciate. Its easy-to-enjoy style marries well with the prominent but delicate flavors of ripe raspberry and cherry. Our Merlot is lighter-bodied wine, which means it pairs extremely well with heavier dishes like pasta. I like to highlight the raspberry fruit of this wine with the foods I prepare, so I'll usually pair it with a rich homemade tomato sauce with Italian sausage over spaghetti. All I need then is a little salad and some fresh-baked garlic bread and I'm all set!

PlumpJack in a brilliant juxtaposition of dense fruit and light acidity, aromas of Black Cherry, Baked Plums, and Blackberry welcome the senses and are followed with warm notes of Dark Fudge, Chocolate, and Vanilla Beans. On the palate, Raspberry Cordial, Cherry Pie Filling, and Cedar box mingle with hints of Cinnamon. A stunning example of all the best Merlot has to offer, the lush mouth-feel and complexity of flavors culminate in a rich finish.

The color is seriously purple with a clear halo. The nose is black cherry, toasty vanilla and Spice Drops candy. Medium bodied and silky smooth, it tastes of raspberry, tea, Snickers bar chocolate and a touch of orange zest. The mid palate is blueberry and vanilla with a little spiced cider. The tannins are soft and smooth and acidity is not an issue. The finish is weak compared to the main body of the wine.

Although its tense young aromas imply good concentration and depth, they are far less open and forthcoming than this supple and well-balanced wine turns out to be in the mouth. It is nicely sweetened with oak and tastes of red cherries, and it makes a fair stab at richness before turning to firmness and being closed out by more than a little astringency. Its tannic constraints will loosen with time, and we urge that it be set aside for three or four more years of age.

Selected wines from various California counties are blended to provide a Merlot with fresh, intense plum and cherry vanilla aroma. A full, round, ripe berry flavor accompanied by a rather soft, spicy finish make this wine particularly delectable. A large portion of this wine was aged in French oak for eight months to add complexity and structure to the rather opulent fruit characteristics of the Merlot grapes. Like our Vintners Blend Zinfandel, the wine is well suited to drinking now, though if you were to "lose" a few bottles and discover them in your cellar in five years, you would most likely not be disappointed.

R Collection Merlot fills the mouth with smooth cherry, raspberry and plum flavors that effortlessly meld with hints of earth and spice and ultimately culminate in a toasty vanilla finish. Full-bodied, yet approachable, the wine displays a good balance of acidity and tannins and would pair deliciously with grilled lamb chops.
