  • Caldera Brewing Company Old Growth Imperial Stout 22oz

Brewed in late December of every year, this imperial stout ages for one whole year before its release. Before there was The Abyss, there was Caldera Imperial Stout. Well, there were other big stouts too, like Widmer's KGB, but in my early days in Portland in 2003 and 2004, I remember discovering Caldera's pitch-black licoricey stout at a lively little neighborhood place called the Buckman Bistro, connected to a fancier restaurant called William's on 12th. The bistro was decorated with the clever conceit of dozens of picture frames containing only mirrors, and in the winter of 2003-2004 they were pouring an opaque stout with a thick, muddy head, from a brewery in Ashland that had only recently started distributing to Portland. Caldera Imperial Stout was a revelation: complex, sticky, bitter yet smooth.

  • Caldera Brewing Company Vas Deferens 22oz

Vas Deferens (the beer, not the body part) is a Belgian-Style Dark Ale, which means lots of complex flavors that help drown out the booziness. And let me tell you, these flavors do that in spades. Rich, sweet malts balance out the sharp jabs of dark roast coffee and cutting through both is the nice addition of orange zest. It has a rich finish, that lingers long on the tongue – a perfect companion to a nice, juicy steak.

  • Caldera IPA 6PK 12oz

An American-style India Pale Ale brewed with plenty of body and an assertive hop profile.
